Go Natural, But Keep It Simple

Everyone’s talking about “cleaner” living… but what does that actually look like? And what’s your mindset around it? Don’t get overwhelmed. You can take small steps that have a ton of impact.

Here are 3 tips for starting out:

1️. Reduce your toxic load by ditching fragrances.

Fragrance was once made from plant extracts, but now it’s made synthetically in a chemical plant. In the United States, thousands of chemicals can hide under a “fragrance” label, and we are seeing fragrance more than ever these days!  From tampons to trash bags to kids toys and bath products…these exposures can really add up. In independent testing, many fragrances have been found to contain endocrine disruptors that have a host of human health impacts, even in small doses. As you phase fragrances out, you will notice such a difference… especially when you encounter them again!  Bottom line: fragrance is a mystery concoction and the lack of testing and disclosure is a major red flag. I used to love all of the scented things, now you’ll find me diffusing totally pure (not fragrance) essential oils instead!

2️. Switch to one plant-based cleaning product at a time.

In addition to creating superbugs, harsh chemical cleaning agents are usually not disinfecting anything unless you soak your surfaces for 5-7 minutes and with kids and pets around, who can do that?  The warning labels on these bottles give you plenty of reasons to swap them out, but if you’re looking for a place for a cleaner option, start especially where you have food (fridge, countertops) or lots of high-touch surfaces (baby’s highchair, dining areas).

Humans used powerful plants to clean before man-made chemicals came around 70 years ago (along with a whole bunch of other health issues…). Looking at the traditional uses and modern-day research on the cinnamon, clove, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus oils that power Thieves Household Cleaner had me ditching and switching and never looking back. One bottle lasts months and can be used in a variety of ways. I am able to reuse spray bottles instead of using lots of plastic, and we didn’t need locks on the cleaning cabinet when our children were babies! There are a variety of Thieves products that we use… I have total peace of mind using these products and they smell and work AMAZINGLY well.

3️. Reduce pesticide exposure by buying organic, washing your food, and eating as much whole, unprocessed food as possible.

Thieves Fruit & Veggie soak uses all of these great natural surfactants to gently cleanse our produce with no aftertaste.. and everything lasts longer too!  PS: takeout and processed foods contain more chemicals in the actual food, the packaging, and the preservatives than what you’re cooking at home… I know, it’s a bummer… but do what you can!
