Natural Sleep Solutions

There are so many things out there to help with sleep… and I know you know how important it is to get good sleep. I’m here to tell you that oils are what made the difference for me. This is why I became a believer in oils. SLEEP. Deep, truly restful sleep. When I started with oils, Grace was six months old and I was having so much trouble getting good sleep - even when the opportunity presented itself. I have never been someone for whom sleep comes easily, and shutting off my brain at night can require some extra support.

Let’s explore how to find your sleep oils.

One thing I’ve learned along the way is that experimentation is always a part of oiling… and a natural lifestyle in general. Many of us are used to a prescriptive society where we are told exactly what to do, but it doesn’t always work that way, friends.  This is a great opportunity to learn how to slow down, pay attention, listen to your body and figure out what works best!  Oils don’t work like a magic pill… just like any lifestyle change, it may take time to get into your groove and feel the benefits. Each of us have a unique body chemistry and emotional state and hence, we have unique oily needs. Don’t give up after one night, or even one week!  This is about EMPOWERMENT and whether it’s sleep, digestion, respiratory health, immune support, or something else, you are worth it.  Let’s talk about what it actually looks like to use oils for sleep…

Oil Usage for Restful Sleep

Essential oils can be used in three ways:

  • internally

  • topically

  • aromatically

I get the best results when I use multiple modalities for my sleepy oils.

What does this look like?

You can have the diffuser going, you can rub the oils into your feet, roll them on your chest and your wrists, and you can take them in a capsule or in supplements.  In the final days of my second pregnancy, I was getting amazing sleep with a Copaiba & Lavender capsule, rubbing Relaxation massage oil all over my belly and Cedarwood all over my feet, and with a diffuser loaded up with oils. Do I always need this much sleep support? Nope, but if you’ve ever been very pregnant and getting up to pee, shifting from side to side, and trying to quiet restless legs (and sometimes anxious mind), you might understand why I needed a lot of oils. Remember that you will find more success if you are willing to experiment…and make sure you’re using enough oils. Diffusers can run all night long so that can be helpful if you wake up and have trouble getting back to sleep.  You may want to add oils to a nighttime soak to help you unwind.  At times, internal usage may really do the trick...and you can even grab an oil from your bedside in the middle of the night and take a few extra huffs if you need it.  Oils are versatile, so use them in a variety of ways and also change it up from time to time.

It’s the Cedarwood for me.

If sleep is a wellness goal, please get yourself some cedarwood oil. This oil helps the brain stimulate the production of melatonin. For me, it shuts down all of that overthinking and helps me unwind like nothing else. I didn’t even love the smell at first, but it just works so well.  I drop this onto the crown of my head (it’s actually great for hair growth as well) and also onto my feet, focusing on the big toes. You could also try diffusing Cedarwood in your diffuser with lavender at night or rub it onto wrists. This oil is in the Tranquil roll-on with lavender and roman chamomile which is a favorite of our family!

Try Some Sleep & Stress Blends

Stress Away, Peace & Calming, and Valor are three oils amazing for sleep, in addition to so many other awesome benefits! Try our Calm Roller with our high quality CBD oil infused with Lavender, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Orange, Vetiver, and Ylang Ylang Essential Oils. Apply liberally to wrists and the back of neck before bed to promote relaxation and quiet the mind. And again, the Tranquil roll-on is a must-have for us and the kids. Some people prefer the RutaVala roll-on which packs a major sleep punch too.

Other Oils to Keep At Your Bedside

Here is a list of the oils I keep in my bedroom and use on the regular for sleep support:

I will combine these for the diffuser and/or apply them.

Internal usage options are usually Lavender Vitality and Copaiba Vitality in a capsule, and Golden Milk made with Golden Turmeric is a great way to relax at night and support overall health as well.  I also love the Unwind supplement and ImmuPro - we use these both with our kids too. Some people swear by SleepEssence - there are a couple of options to explore.

Change it Up and Have Fun.

You WILL need to change it up with your sleep oils from time to time… whether it’s because of the moon cycle, the change of seasons, during travel, or when you have a lot going on at work, you will  Read about them in your reference guides and join our oils community to ask questions and share ideas. Apply them and notice how they make you feel. Try new concoctions. Pay attention to what you are drawn toward and why. Soon you will be oiling yourself with a sense of intuition that you did not perhaps have at first.

Good sleep is worth it, friends!

Go and make it happen!

Sweet dreams.
